On Sunday, October 9, 2022, I attended Moffett Memorial Baptist Church for their 10:30am service. Now, if you are a devout follower of this blog, you may have noticed that my last writing was also from October 9th… That is no misprint, I made sure I got my church fill that day as I had missed a few weeks from traveling.
Older churches, especially those near or in downtown, often have unusual parking. Thankfully, Moffett’s side parking lot has ample parking and is facing the side door, which is their current main entrance on Sundays. Upon entering the church, there was a man who opened the door for me and pointed me to the sanctuary. In route, I passed the pastor, who was getting mic’d up for the service. He spoke and welcomed me to the church.
Their bulletin was very similar to the one at North Main Baptist – very colorful with their text boxes full of information. The order of worship was very similar to most traditional churches. The pastor, along with his wife and father, have a trio – they performed a mini-concert during the service. The sermon was on David, and mainly focused on the story of him defeating Goliath. The message was really focused on the moments in the story that were “game changers” – moments where each decision led to something great!
The service ended with the recognition of a woman’s profession of faith. Moments like that are what church is all about. The service lasted right at an hour. There were several children in attendance and per their bulletin they seem to offer classes for all age groups. Overall, I had a great visit at Moffett!
