On April 24th I woke up late. I had planned to visit a church that started at 10:30am, but looking at my clock I knew I would have to go to a church that started at 11am, and it would have to be close by. Schoolfield Baptist Church was my pick since as I was driving by it seemed that their service was about to start. (Their Facebook page and outdoor sign did not mention their service times.)
They had three different small parking lots to choose from which I found to be different. After parking, I walked up the long-steep steps to enter into their front door. Upon entering, I was welcomed by two greeters at the door and was handed a bulletin. Once I sat down I noticed the pastor mingling with the congregation. As soon as he saw me he quickly made his way to introduce himself, and welcome me to the church. Others around also came over to welcome me before the service started.
Quickly into the service I noticed how amazing the acoustics in the sanctuary were. When I say that a room full of 55 people sounded like a room full of 200 plus, I am not exaggerating. Even when just the choir sang – it sounded like a room full of people! There were many songs in the service, but I did not mind it. We did have to use the hymnals since the words to the song were not projected on their screen.
The sermon was entitled, ”A Disciple’s Purpose” based on Matthew 28:16-20. It was a meaningful sermon and seemed to be on topic for the week after Easter. I will say that the sermon was one of the longer ones that I have sat through during this church-hopping journey. However, the service was over by 12:20pm. The Pastor ended the service with an alter call during the last hymn for those that need prayer or rededication to God’s call.
Once the service was over I couldn’t even get out of the pew before there was a line there to greet me, and to thank me for visiting. As I made my way back to the front door the pastor stopped and spoke to be again (he remembered my name) and introduced me to his wife. I did fill out a visitor card and placed it in the offering plate. I received a letter in the mail by Wednesday from the pastor. I left feeling welcomed and charged up for another week!
